Maurice CHEVALIER’s Ménilmontant District will immediately charm you with its “suburban village” feel, where contemporary art is very active and the nightlife very lively.

The Oberkampf District, at once festive, young and dynamic, is surely one of the most lively in the capital. From the Bataclan to the Ménilmontant metro, trendy bars, restaurants and other nightclubs line rue Oberkampf to the delight of Parisian night owls.

Concert halls are also numerous, such as the Nouveau Casino, or the Bataclan to name just a few, along with theatres and art galleries in this district where culture is thriving!

The street is located in the heart of the former industrial districts of Paris and takes advantage of its location to foster a prosperous commercial life. Known as chemin de Ménilmontant for more than 300 years, the area was renamed after the creator of the Manufacture Royale des toiles de Jouy in 1864.

Not far from rue d’Oberkampf, on rue Crespin du Gast, the small Edith Piaf museum can be found. Set in an apartment in the Ménilmontant District, where the singer lived for a time, you will discover personal objects and other souvenirs of the famous performer of “La Vie en rose”.

800 m from the Hotel Residence, the famous Père Lachaise Cemetery will reveal its beautifully carved tombstones and unique park.

A few hundred metres further on, you will reach the most lively districts of Paris,

Such as the Marais District, where you will be able to discover, while strolling in “old Paris”, amongst extraordinary architecture, the CARNAVALET and SULLY private mansions. Here you will discover the PICASSO Museum, or Victor Hugo’s house.

Or discover the Place Des Vosges, and the village St-Paul on your way to the Hôtel de Ville de Paris.

Or even the Place de la Bastille with its famous Opera house or the Place de la République. And a few metro stations away, the Butte Montmartre, the Cité des Sciences et de la Musique, the Géode, the Zenith of Paris, the Parc de la Villette with the Canal Saint Martin.
